The project "Loop Wears: Revitalising Thread" is a transformative initiative that aims to tackle the pressing issue of pollution caused by fabric waste. The growing population necessitates more clothing, leading to increasing fabric waste in the clothing-making process. Landfills are overwhelmed with fabric that takes a long time to degrade, reflecting negligence and lack of environmental concern. Textile production contributes to CO2 emissions and the fashion industry is a major source of CO2 emissions and textile waste. The textile industry also consumes substantial amounts of water, with cotton production requiring thousands of liters for a single t-shirt. The dyeing process further contributes to water contamination.
While there are positive initiatives for upcycling fabric, fabric recycling has received less attention. Fabric recycling breaks down waste or unused fabric into microform, allowing for the creation of new yarns and fresh raw materials for the clothing industry. This development encourages creativity and innovation, envisioning a future where the textile industry thrives through sustainable practices.
The overall goal of the project is the transition of Nepal’s textile industry toward a more circular and sustainable future.
To eradicate textile waste from landfills.
To build a sustainable and circular chain in the textile industries of Nepal.
Establish as Sustainable Circular Social Business Model.
Foster Nepal’s fashion industry into a more sustainable and circular fashion.
Collection and segregation of fabrics.
Recycling of fabrics into usable items/ recycled textiles.
Designing and marketing recycled products.
Goods distributed to customers directly or through intermediaries.
