Prerana Shrestha
Prerana Shrestha is an aspiring sustainability practitioner, currently pursuing her Bachelor’s Degree in Agriculture Science from the Institute of Agriculture and Animal Science, Nepal. She is also engaged as a Campus Ambassador at Sustainability Week Kathmandu. With a strong interest in sustainability issues and a commitment to learning, she is eager to contribute her skills and passion to address pressing global challenges such as climate change and resource depletion.
Project: The “Banana Fiber Extraction Project” is a sustainable initiative aimed at utilizing banana fibers to create various handicrafts and products while empowering local communities.
The project will primarily experiment with different techniques and designs to produce a range of products using banana fibers, including paper, rope, bags, and handicrafts. The project will be located in Rupendehi, Bhairahawa. Through collaboration with women's groups, the project not only repurposes waste but also empowers marginalized women with valuable skills and employment opportunities. The project embodies the fusion of creativity, environmental stewardship, and economic empowerment, contributing to a brighter future for both humans and the planet. Targeted SDGs include Goal 1: No poverty, Goal 8: Decent work and economic growth, Goal 12: Responsible consumption & production, and Goal 13: Climate action.
